On January 31st, 2004 The People United for Dignity, Democracy and Justice Group (LVEJO’s leadership group) began attending the Building Urban Gardens Series (B.U.G.S), hosted by Garfield Park Conservatory. This group is learning all about planning, organizing and creating community gardens. During the month of January a group of parents at Gary school began a gardening group. This group has met several times to talk about when and where they will create their garden.
During the month of February, the Eli Whitney Beautification committee began meeting and discussing the creation of a garden in front of the school. Currently, the group is passing out a survey inside the school to vote for the colors and plants in the garden.
