Dear Mrs. Blagojevich,
The Mothers and Families of the Little Village community would like to cordially invite you to come to visit and tour our neighborhood in the month of May /June 2008.
Midwest Generation’s largest coal power plant (known as Crawford) is located in our neighborhood and our residents, especially children, are suffering from the thousands of tons of toxins, especially mercury emissions, by this plant each year. The only other Coal Power Plant in Chicago (known as Fisk) is located in Pilsen, only 4 miles away.
We have been busy educating and organizing in support of Governor Blagojevich's Mercury Rule. We also need your assistance in communicating to the members of our community the importance of passing a strong Mercury Rule. Since the mercury from these plants’ chimneys falls into the Chicago Region’s waterways and onto the ground of our yard's, gardens and parks. We would like to work together with you, our elected officials and mothers everywhere in Illinois to make our health and environment better without hurting our economy.
We work with several schools in our neighborhood to learn about the Coal Power Plants and the effects on our environment. The mothers, fathers, and children would like to invite you to take a brief walking tour to see our community, our parks, gardens, houses and the industrial areas that affect our health.
This is the year that will decide the future of our families health for years to come.
