Urban Agriculture - Local Skills

The Little Village Environmental Justice Organization and the U.S. Forestry Service are working together to survey community knowledge of plants, plant communities, and natural resources, and use this knowledge to develop and sustain community based conservation programs. The purpose of this program is consensus.

These are the 5 Main Points in the Urban Forestry Project:

1. The creation of several gardening groups in Little Village.
2. The creation of a survey that will help us learn about the skills that our neighbors have.
3. Hosting environmental awareness workshops; where we can all share our knowledge and experiences in gardening.
4. Environmental Activities; such as having a clean up day or an environmental “design a T-shirt contest”.
5. A manual that will show other communities how Little Village increased their gardens or green space. The manual will also have sections on gardening, environmental education resources, and resources in the environmental field of work.

Who can participate?

• The Urban Forestry initiative is open to all members of the Little Village Community.
  
• If you know about plants, trees, gardening, etc. please contact Sonia at LVEJO.
  
• Partnering groups also consist of schools and community groups.
  
• We need your help in finding people that have these skills, so please talk to your neighbors, friends, and family about this important project.
