Funder Recognition Page

LVEJO wishes to thank our Funders for their generous support for the years 2004-2006:

Government Funders:

Private Foundations:

1. New, First Time Grant: Lloyd A. Fry Foundation has funded a new Little Village Environmental Justice Organization (LVEJO) asthma environmental health project at McCormick Elementary Public School in Little Village: Received: December, 2006: http://www.fryfoundation.org/grantmake.html
The Health Program seeks to improve access to quality care for Chicago's low-income residents. We support programs that target Chicago's underserved neighborhoods and communities with needed primary care (including medical, vision, dental, and mental health care), community outreach and disease prevention programs, and policy advocacy efforts. We give priority to research-based initiatives that: incorporate health education, early disease detection, and treatment interventions for chronic diseases (such as asthma, diabetes, HIV/AIDS, and hypertension); enroll families into government-subsidized health insurance programs (such as All Kids, FamilyCare, Medicaid, and Medicare); include strategic partnerships between a health system and community-based organizations; focus on linguistically and culturally competent programs for limited-English speaking immigrants; and improve knowledge and practice in the health field.

2. January 27th, 2007: New Grant from the Field Foundation for the Clean Up of the 24 acre Celotex Superfund Site and the building of a park there. http://www.fieldfoundation.org/Environment%20Grants.pdf

3. Grant Awarded: November 2006 The Little Village Environmental Justice Organization (LVEJO) is proud to announce that we have been selected by The Funders’ Collaborative on Youth Organizing as one of eleven organizations in the United States by to be part of a new multi-year called ReGenerations: Youth Leadership Expansion for Environmental Justice Initiative (REGEN: EJ).
Created to respond to the critical need for youth leadership development and expansion for a sustainable environmental justice movement, this multi-year funding initiative will support community-based environmental justice groups that have demonstrated a commitment to developing young people’s leadership in the context of community building and organizing. In addition to contributing to the increased effectiveness of these organizations, the initiative will document effective models of multi-generational community organizing that contribute to the sustainability of effective leadership.

4. The Chicago Community Trust approved funding of two of our environmental health campaigns on Clean Air and Clean Land for the fifth year in a row with our largest grant yet from the Trust: Received February, 2007 http://www.cct.org/page28931.cfm: The Trust believes community health is more than just eradicating disease; it is a holistic approach to the complete physical, mental and social well being of Chicagoans. With that in mind, the Trust’s grant making considers a full range of health issues, including lifestyle and health behaviors, social and physical environments as well as access to, and utilization of, health care services.

Currently, the Trust’s Health program is making the following areas a priority:

* Health Care System Change
* Improving Lifestyle and Behavioral Choices
* Increasing Immigrant Participation and Leadership in Health Initiatives (as part of the Trust’s 2007 Immigrant Integration program)
* Reducing Environmental Health Threats"
